Apple has released CarPlay Ultra, the next generation of CarPlay, for new Aston Martins and on existing models that feature Apple’s infotainment system through a software update in the coming weeks.

According to Apple, by closely integrating with the automobile and combining the best features of the iPhone and the car, CarPlay Ultra enhances the capabilities of CarPlay and offers enhanced in-car experiences.

Apple CarPlay Ultra Features

Apple said that the next generation of CarPlay “gives drivers a smarter, safer way to use their iPhone in the car.” In addition to reflecting the look and feel of the carmaker and giving drivers a customisable experience, CarPlay Ultra delivers screen information and real-time content.

With dynamic settings for the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, and more, CarPlay Ultra offers content for all the driver’s screens, including the instrument cluster. In addition to vehicle information such as tyre pressure and advanced driver assistance systems, drivers can opt to display information from their iPhone, such as media and navigation, directly in the instrument cluster.

Drivers can also utilise onscreen controls, physical buttons, or Siri to control both standard vehicle functions like radio and climate along with more advanced controls like audio system configurations or performance settings—all from within CarPlay. Additionally, CarPlay Ultra offers iPhone-powered widgets that match the gauge cluster or car screen to display information quickly.

Automakers can also convey their design philosophy with the look and feel their customers expect using CarPlay Ultra. Apple said it works closely with carmakers to create unique themes and customisations for different vehicles. Drivers also have the option to customise the themes’ colours and wallpapers.

Apple CarPlay Ultra Availability

Apple said CarPlay Ultra will be rolled out in the US and Canada for Aston Martin’s core model lineup and will be expanded to other vehicles globally over the year. Other manufacturers, including Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, are looking at making CarPlay Ultra available to drivers worldwide, Apple added.

CarPlay Ultra works with iPhone 12 or later, running iOS 18.5 or later.
