Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, two of the worst performing sides of 2026 Indian Premier League, will square off at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. With two wins and seven losses, MI are placed ninth on the IPL points tally. LSG meanwhile find themselves last managing just two wins while suffering six losses.
With the chances of qualifying for the play-offs are almost over, the two teams will take their remainder of matches this season to salvage pride, give fringe players a chance to perform and start building for the next season.
MI head into the match on the back of a eight-wicket loss at the hands of arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings. The five-time champions have had plenty of issues to deal with this season. Some of their core players including Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, captain Hardik Pandya and Trent Boult, have misfired! Veteran batter Rohit Sharma has missed the last five games due to an hamstring injury. But the former skipper is expected to be fit and take field for this match.
Like MI, most of LSG's key players too have been off colour this year. The batting trio of Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran have fallen short of their usually effervescent best. One of these three players, most likely Pooran, is going to make way for Josh Inglis who joined the IPL late. With each passing game, captain Rishabh Pant's credentials as a T20 player are coming under increasing scrutiny. The team has also underutilised its bowling resources, as Mohsin Khan, Mohammed Shami, and Avesh Khan have all failed to hit double digits in wickets.
