Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has bagged the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for December and in the process beat back stiff competition posed by the likes of Australian Pat Cummins and South African Dane Paterson - the other contenders for the coveted trophy.

Bumrah's outstanding performances on the Indian team's Australia tour in Dec. 2024 played a big part in the fast bowler bagging this award. In the three Test matches India played against Australia, Bumrah took 22 wickets, and amazingly gave away just 14.22 runs on an average.

Notably, it was during this series that he took his 200th Test wicket. At the same time, Bumrah also became the fourth fastest bowler to reach the milestone in terms of balls bowled and, more than that, he also became the first to do so with an under-20 average.

During the Australia tour, Bumrah's Adelaide haul of four wickets was key to reigning in Australia’s lead in the first innings and helped bolster India's position when its fortunes were rapidly declining.

The Ahmedabad-born bowler also made his bowling count with a nine-wicket match haul in Brisbane. His six wickets in the first innings dismantled Australia’s batting order, while in the second innings he added three more. Thanks to his efforts, the rain-affected match ended in a draw, keeping India alive in the series.

He put up yet another stellar display during the Boxing Day Test match in Melbourne. He emerged as the best performer among his fellow bowlers by picking up four wickets in the first innings.

Bumrah kept the pressure up on the Aussies and he secured a sensational five-wicket haul in the second innings, bowling Australia out for 234. Despite his heroics, India’s batting faltered, resulting in a 184-run defeat.

In what proved to be an extremely challenging tour for the Indian team, Bumrah emerged as the lone warrior for India consistently delivering match-defining performances.

That he has been crowned as the ICC Men’s Player For December 2024 is quite fitting considering his outstanding performances. This comes in the wake of Bumrah being picked as the Player of the Series award for his exceptional contributions during the tour Down Under. And not the least of it, Bumrah has also cemented his reputation as one of the finest bowlers in world cricket.
