India will face England in a five-match Test series starting Friday. The first IND vs ENG Test will be played at Headingley from 3:30 p.m. IST onwards.

Legendary Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson formally unveiled the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ahead of the opening match of the five-Test series between India and England in Headingley on Thursday.

The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, a joint initiative between the two boards ECB and BCCI, hereon replaces the Pataudi Trophy (for series in England) and the Anthony de Mello Trophy (for series in India) for all India-England Test contests.

The series marks the beginning of India’s campaign to win the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27. Previously, India reached the finals of the 2019-21 and 2021-23 WTC cycles, but failed to cross the finish line.

Shubman Gill will be leading the Indian team, which will be without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin. The spotlight will be on how Gill leads the team in the wake of the retirement of heavyweights.

Important players to watch out for include newly appointed vice-captain Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jasprit Bumrah will spearhead the Indian pace attack. Important bowlers in the lineup are Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur and Arshdeep Singh.

Gill Relishes England Challenge

Shubman Gill is embracing the challenge of England's ever-changing weather as he prepares to lead India for the first time in a Test series, while senior batter KL Rahul is equally enthusiastic about playing in English conditions.

In a video shared by the BCCI on 'X', several Indian players, including skipper Gill, shared what comes to mind when they think of playing in England.

"Dukes ball, that's number one. The weather which is always changing, that's exciting and tough. And just the atmosphere of the crowd," Gill said.

Rahul added: "Playing Test cricket here excites me. The English summer here is different from what we get back home, it's something that I enjoy playing cricket in. When the sun is out it's great to play cricket. The third thing is the options for restaurants and food."

Spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar kept it simple: "Swing and seam, India winning a lot of games over here."
