India Keen On Taking Lead In Brisbane After Pink Ball Setback

The Gabba holds historic significance for India, with their memorable 2021 victory led by Rishabh Pant, but the stakes are higher this time with a World Test Championship final spot on the line.

The Kangaroos and the Men in Blue will take on each other in the third test at the Gabba, Brisbane, on Dec. 14. After a disappointing loss in the pink ball test in Adelaide, Team India is hoping to repeat their last performance at the Gabba.

At Brisbane, India has won once, drawn once, and lost five times. In the last series played down under in 2021, India defeated the Aussies by three wickets. Rishabh Pant's unbeaten 89 off 138 balls guided India to dominate at The Gabba and win their first-ever test at the venue.

Despite the absence of veteran players like Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virat Kohli, a much younger Indian team scripted one of the greatest underdog victories in test cricket at the Gabba in 2021.

The Gabba test is crucial as the qualification for the World Test Championship final is at stake.

Skipper Rohit Sharma's return to the Indian squad for the Adelaide Test saw scores of 3 and 6. Rohit demoted himself to the middle order, allowing KL Rahul to open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the pink ball Test. However, the ploy failed, and the Indian captain could not rescue the team from dire straits.

Rohit could take a page out of history, from the 2003-04 series when Sourabh Ganguly scored a solid 144 runs at The Gabba, setting the tone for the rest of the series.

Where To Watch Brisbane Test

The match will be held from Dec. 14 to18, 2024, with play starting at 5:50 a.m. Indian Standard Time. The match will be telecast on DD Sports, Star Sports Network (TV), and Disney+ Hotstar (live streaming on the app).
