Delhi Capitals IPL 2025 Team, Captain, Full Schedule, List Of Retained Players And More

The Indian Premier League 2025 will kick off on March 22 with Kolkata Knight Riders facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens.

Delhi Capitals, led by Axar Patel, will be looking to clinch their maiden IPL title this year. They failed to reach the playoffs last season. DC is one of the three original IPL franchises yet to win a title (along with Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru). It finished sixth last season with an equal win-loss record.

DC will begin their campaign against the Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.

For IPL 2025, they have a revamped coaching setup with GMR taking management control for 2025 and 2026 season as per their understanding with co-owners JSW.

The support staff is headlined by Kevin Pietersen along with head coach Hemang Badani, director of cricket Venugopal Rao, assistant coach Matthew Mott and bowling coach Munaf Patel. Venugopal Rao's brother Gnaneshwar Rao has also been included in the coaching set-up.

Currently, the team's longest-serving player, having played six seasons for Delhi since 2019, Axar Patel was DC's top retention for Rs 16.50 crore ahead of the mega auction last November. In 82 games for Delhi, he has scored 967 runs and picked up 62 wickets at a fantastic economy rate of shade over 7.

It is the first time Axar Patel has been named the full-time captain of an IPL franchise. Faf du Plessis, who was bought for Rs 2 crore, has been appointed as the vice-captain.

Apart from Axar, important retentions by DC include Kuldeep Yadav (Rs 13.25 crore), Tristan Stubbs (Rs 10 crore), and Abhishek Porel (Rs 4 crore). Heavyweight purchases include KL Rahul (Rs 14 crore) and Mitchell Starc (Rs 11.75 crore).
