Mclaren's Piastri and Mercedes' Russell will lock out the first row for the Chinese Grand Prix which will take place today at the Shanghai International Circuit.

Chinese GP 2025: The second race of the 2025 Formula 1 season is set to unfold at the Chinese Grand Prix, scheduled to be held at the Shanghai International Circuit on Mar. 23. Lando Norris has emerged as a top contender for the title following his dramatic win in the rain-affected curtain raiser at the Australian GP. The McLaren driver pipped Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to finish atop the podium in Melbourne.
Mercedes’ George Russell and Kimi Antonelli secured the third and fourth spots while Lewis Hamilton in his Ferrari debut could only manage tenth position at Albert Park in Australia.
After the season opener, McLaren and Mercedes shared the top place in the Constructors' Championship with 27 points.
The Chinese GP will be hosted on a 5.45-kilometre (3.39-mile) purpose-built racetrack in Shanghai where the first F1 event took place in 2004. The circuit resembles the Chinese character “Shang” which also features in the name of the city.
Max Verstappen is the defending champion of the Chinese GP. Lewis Hamilton remains the most successful driver on the Shanghai International Circuit, having won the title six times from 2008 to 2019 at McLaren and Mercedes.
Chinese F1 Grand Prix 2025: Sprint Result
Lewis Hamilton was the surprise winner of the Sprint Race which took place on Saturday. After qualifying first in the sprint qualy, Hamilton drove his Ferrari over the line and secured 1st position with a healthy gap of 6.8 seconds over Piastri who came second followed by Max Versatppen in Third.
Chinese F1 Grand Prix 2025: Qualifying Result
The qualifying which took place later in the day saw a different pecking order at the top with McLaren team getting pole position and 3rd place. Piastri was the standout driver with a qualifying time of 1:30.641, George Russell was a surprise 2nd with a time of 1:30.723. Norris and Max will lock the 2nd row of the grid followed by two Ferrari's of Hamilton and Leclerc.
What Is The Weather Forecast For The 2025 Chinese Grand Prix?
While rain spoilt the season opener in Melbourne, the weather is expected to be clear and sunny during the Chinese GP in Shanghai. The temperature is expected to hover around 24 or 25 degrees Celsius over the three days. Conditions may become warmer and a bit cloudy on Sunday, with the temperature hitting 27 degrees Celsius.
Although there is a 40% chance of showers on race day it could happen well after the race.
