Dharavi recorded 85 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 today taking the total count of infected people in Mumbai's biggest slum to 1,327.
Among the latest to test positive are women aged between 7 years and 85 years and men aged between 11 years and 72 years, said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai.
56 people have died so far due to the virus in Dharavi—a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses.
Of the 85 fresh cases:
- 18 were from Matunga Labour Camp.
- Eight from 90 Feet Road.
- Five from Kumbharwada.
- Four each from Sant Kakaiyya Marg and Dharavi Main Road.
- Three each from Sant Rohidas Marg Sahu Nagar and Transit camp.
- Two each from Subhash Nagar, Azad Nagar, Abu Bakr Chawl, Khambdev Nagar, Dharavi Cross Road, PV Chawl and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar.
- One each from KM Chaughule Chawl, Neelkamal CHS, Gul Mohd Road, Sitarata Chawl, Ambedkar Nagar, Gandhi CHS, Pradnaya Niwas, Manmala Tank, Kalpataru CHS, Dharavi Koliwada, Indira Qureshi Nagar, Dhorwada, BMC Chawl, Kalyanwadi, Rahul Mamta CHS, Mitra Sangham CHS, Kranti Nagar, Kamla Nehru Nagar, Mukund Nagar, Jeevanjyot Rahiwasi Sangh, New Municipal School, Farmabai Chawl, and Kela Wakhar.
According to Maharashtra health ministry's media bulletin on Monday, 2,033 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the state, taking the total tally to 35,058. The total number of cases in Mumbai stands at 21,335.
