Karnataka Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar's wife and daughter have tested positive for Covid-19, a day after his father was confirmed to have been infected with the virus.
"Test results of our family members have come. Unfortunately, my wife and daughter have tested positive for #Covid19 and are undergoing treatment," the minister tweeted on Tuesday.
He said he and his two sons have tested negative.
Earlier, the domestic help of the minister had tested coronavirus positive and was admitted to a hospital.
Assam reported 267 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, taking the total number of infections in the state to 5,853, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The ruling BJP MLA Krishnendu Paul was among those who tested positive on Monday, an official said. Meanwhile, 161 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the state on Monday, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,565, the minister said.
Of the total 5,853 positive cases, 2,276 are active, nine people have died, 3,565 have recovered and three migrated out of the state, he said.
Fourteen more people died of coronavirus in West Bengal on Monday, taking the state's death toll to 569, while 413 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 14,358, a health department bulletin said.
Twelve out of the 14 deaths were due to comorbidities where Covid-19 was incidental, it said. Of the 14 deaths, seven were from Kolkata, three each from Howrah and North 24 Parganas, and one from Hooghly.
The number of new cases around the globe reached a record, fueled by a surge in Latin America, the World Health Organization said. Total infections surpassed 9 million. Hong Kong recorded 30 new imported cases Monday, the biggest single-day increase since April 3. Delta Air Lines resumed flights to China even as Beijing grapples with a fresh wave of infections. In the U.S., Florida’s new infections rose to another high.
Globally, total cases have topped 9 million with over 470,000 dead.
