The @mybmc has decided to open up testing to any individual in the city without prescription/ self attestation. Labs can now conduct RT PCR tests as per ICMR guidelines at the will of anyone. This will help citizens feel safer and test when they have a doubt, without any delays.
The process of conducting clinical trials for Covaxin, a vaccine candidate for Covid-19, began on Tuesday at the Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, a top official of the state-run medical facility said.
"We will select healthy individuals and draw blood and send the blood samples to designated labs in New Delhi. They will give the green signal. Then the medicine people will examine and the first shot of the vaccine will be given due observation," NIMS director Dr K Manohar told PTI.
"Everything will be sent to ICMR, where data is analysed. We have already started the screening of individuals. We will first take audio visual consent of the individual," the medical officer added.
Asked about the total number of individuals required for the clinical trial, Manohar said at least 30 are needed.
The district administration of Thane in Maharashtra has urged recovered COVID-19 patients to serve at treatment centres and hospitals to meet the need for more staff as coronavirus cases continue to rise, an official said on Tuesday.
Nodal officer for Thane rural Dr Nitin Mokashi said if a person contracts coronavirus once, it is unlikely that he or she can get infected again after recovery.
Recovered patients can serve at hospitals and Covid-19 treatment facilities, which need more staff as infections continue to rise, he said.
A 200-bed Covid-19 hospital in Binar needed the services of recovered patients who will be paid as per the government norms and also get other benefits, he said. There were plans to set up a similar 200-bed hospital at Dugad Phata in Bhiwandi and 400-bed facility at Ganeshpuri to meet the rise in Covid-19 cases in the rural areas of the district, Mokashi said.
Assam's Covid-19 tally crossed the 12,000-mark on Monday with 786 more people testing positive for the disease, including 598 from the capital city, Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The total number of positive cases in Assam now stands at 12,522. The state has 4,623 active cases, Sarma said in a tweet. "Alert ~ 786 new cases detected in Assam today, with 598 cases from Guwahati City alone. Please follow #SocialDistancing, wear #mask & maintain hygiene," he added.
In a separate tweet, Sarma said 449 patients recovered from the disease and were discharged from various hospitals across the state during the day. So far, 14 patients have died of the disease, while 7,882 have been cured and discharged from hospitals, he added.
