A huge space rock, dubbed by the US space agency NASA as Asteroid 2025 DU2 is rushing toward a close encounter with Earth and it is set to happen today. Not only is this a massive 150-foot asteroid, it is dashing toward Earth at an astonishing speed, which is adding even more kinetic energy to it, boosting its potential for destruction. And it is only going faster, showing no signs of slowing down.

According to NASA, this asteroid is as large as a massive airplane at 150 feet and it will just about miss hitting Earth. The Asteroid 2025 DU2 will get as close as 337,000 miles of Earth. That is just a bit farther off than the Moon is to Earth at 239,000 miles. The asteroid will make its closest Earth approach today, Mar. 6, 2025.

According to the data collected by various NASA instruments, including ground- and space-based telescopes and spacecraft, this asteroid has been tagged as a near-earth object (NEO) and that it belongs to the Apollo group. NASA's Small-Body Database Lookup has provided further details too.

It has been revealed that Asteroid 2025 DU2 is speeding along toward Earth at an astonishing 38929 mph and amazingly, by the time it passes the moon, it will be travelling even faster at 40805 mph.

While it may fly by both the Earth and the Moon, this will not be the last time that humanity sees this asteroid. In fact, Asteroid 2025 DU2 will return in the year 2032. Yes, the same year that NASA had initially predicted that another space rock, the infamous Asteroid 2024 YR4 would crash on Earth. However, NASA and most recently, the Subaru Telescope have said that there is near zero (0.004%) chance of that happening now.
