In the second fortnight of December 2021, the number of active Covid-19 cases rose marginally after declining continuously since May 2021. In the first week of January 2022, cases surged by ~416%, suggesting that India may be in a third Covid-19 wave.
In the second fortnight of Dec-21, the number of deaths were down by 30.9% from the previous fortnight. However, the number of deaths has not seen a significant spike in the first week of Jan-22. This leads us to believe that with subsequent waves of the pandemic, the severity of restrictions/lockdowns and the disease wanes over time.
Mobility has slowed with rising Covid-19 cases, with mobility for retail and recreation slipping back below pre-pandemic levels. However, workplace mobility has improved over the fortnight.
