BSNL Q3 Results: First Quarterly Profit Since 2007

The telecom provider's revenue rose 2.7% to Rs 4,968.9 crore in the third quarter.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.'s net profit rose sequentially to Rs 262.4 crore in the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2024, as compared to a loss of Rs 1,245.16 crore in the same period last fiscal. This marks the company's first quarterly profit since 2007.

The telecom provider's revenue rose 2.7% over the previous three months to Rs 4,968.9 crore in the third quarter, according to an exchange filing on Friday. This compares with Rs 4,838.5-crore revenue for the year-ago period.

BSNL Q3 FY25 Highlights (Consolidated, QoQ)

  • Revenue up 2.7% to Rs 4,968.9 crore versus Rs 4,838.5 crore.

  • Net profit at Rs 262.4 crore vs loss of Rs 1,245.2 crore.

  • Ebitda up 302% to Rs 759.5 crore versus Rs 188.8 crore.

  • Margin expands to 15.3% versus 3.9%.

BSNL's revenue from mobility services grew 15%, while its fiber-to-the-home revenue surged 18% for the October-December quarter, according to a press release by the Ministry of Communications.

Revenue from leased line services increased 14% in the third quarter compared to the same period last year.

The company's losses declined by Rs 1,800 crore compared to last year due to reduced finance cost and overall expenditure. "Process automation and strategic resource management" has helped the telecom provider to enhance its efficiency," the release said.

Additionally, strategic revival initiatives, spectrum allocation, and capital infusion have strengthened the company's operations. Also, its revenue is expected to outdo by 20% by the end of the fiscal 2025.
