Sudan Committee Says 30 Dead in Almost Six Weeks of Protests

(Bloomberg) -- A Sudanese government committee said 30 people have died in protests that have rocked the northern African country since mid-December.

The head of the investigation committee, Aamir Ibrahim, gave the toll to reporters Tuesday in the capital, Khartoum. Rights group Amnesty International has previously said more than 40 have been killed in the nationwide demonstrations sparked by soaring living costs, while the leader of the main opposition party has put the toll at 50.
