(Bloomberg) -- Republican Ross Spano defeated Democrat Kristen Carlson in Florida's 15th Congressional District, hanging onto the GOP seat after four-term Representative Dennis Ross's retirement, according to projections from the Associated Press.
Spano, a state representative, won the Republican-leaning district with a platform promising more choice in education and health care, government spending cuts -- except for the military -- and stronger borders.
