Thousands joined filmmaker Saba Dewan's campaign #NotInMyName on Wednesday to protest against mob lynchings. The protests, which covered 19 cities and India and five abroad, were triggered after a 16-year-old Muslim boy, Hafiz Junaid, was lynched in the Delhi-Mathura train on Thursday
Last week, Muslim teenager, Hafiz Junaid, was stabbed to death on a Mathura-bound train which he had taken with his two brothers after shopping for Eid at Delhi's Sadr Bazar. The altercation, which had allegedly begun over seats, reported turned to racist slurs with the rest of the passengers calling Junaid and his relatives "Pakistanis", "anti-nationals" and "beef eaters".
After the incident, a Gurgaon-based filmmaker Saba Dewan campaigned for the protest under the banner #NotInMyName, which picked up huge momentum online.
All major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru, saw people come out in huge numbers, including actors and politicians.

#NotInMyName must become a movement till the gory lynchings come to an end. The peaceful protest must spread all over India. Inch by inch.
Today's #NotInMyName protests are undoubtedly important and necessary. But IMO it cannot and should not be hijacked by so-called...
Actors Shabana Azmi, Kalki Koechlin, Konkona Sen Sharma, Rajat Kapoor and Ranvir Shorey, were among those who participated.
