Outgoing Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that the people of Goa will repent for the next five years for giving a fractured mandate.
“I don't know why there was such a result. People have given a fractured mandate and I feel they have committed a mistake. They will repent for next five years,” Parsekar told reporters after submitting his resignation to Goa Governor Mridula Sinha.
Parsekar lost from Mandrem constituency to Congress candidate Dayanand Sopte by over 7,000 votes.
The outgoing chief minister was accompanied by his cabinet colleague Rajendra Arlekar who lost from Pernem seat.

The Election Commission in response to BSP Chief Mayawati's compliant regarding alleged tampering of the Electronic Voting Machines said that there is no merit in the allegations leveled by the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.
As many as six cabinet ministers in Goa including Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar lost their respective seats. The six ministers included Mahadev Naik (Social Welfare), Dilip Parulekar (Woman And Child Development), Dayanand Mandrekar (Art And Culture), Rajendra Arlekar (Forest And Environment Minister) and Avertan Furtado (Labour And Employment).
Aparna Yadav, Daughter-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav lost to BJP's Rita Bahuguna Joshi by over 30,000 votes from the Lucknow Cantonment seat. Rita Bahuguna Joshi polled a total of 95,402 votes compared to 61,606 votes polled by Yadav. (Source: Election Commission)

Outgoing Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal defeated his nearest rival Congress candidate Captain Amarinder Singh by 22,770 votes from Lambi Assembly constituency. Badal, SAD candidate, polled 66,375 votes while Congress candidate Amarinder Singh secured 43,605 votes.
