Democrat Ends Republicans’ Grip on New Jersey’s 11th District

(Bloomberg) -- Democrat Mikie Sherrill ended the Republican hold on New Jersey's 11th congressional district to replace Rodney Frelinghuysen, the wealthy scion of a political family who had served in the House since 1995 and is retiring, according to projections from ABC and CBS.

Sherrill, a former Navy helicopter pilot and federal prosecutor, defeated state lawmaker Jay Webber, who sought the seat after Frelinghuysen, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, announced his retirement. President Donald Trump, who is unpopular in New Jersey, had tweeted support and hosted a fundraiser for Webber. Fury in the district over the limit on state and local property tax deductions made it a key national target for Democrats.
