Income Tax Refunds Up 46% During April-November To Rs 3 Lakh Crore
The highest number of ITRs filed in a single day was 69.93 lakh on July 31, the Department of Revenue said in its year-end report.

Income tax refunds amounting to about Rs 3.08 lakh crore were dispersed between April and November this year, which is about 46% higher than refunds during the same period in the preceding year, the government said on Tuesday.
As of Nov. 22, approximately 98.35% of ITRs filed have been e-verified. The highest number of ITRs filed in a single day was 69.93 lakh on July 31, the Department of Revenue said in its year-end report.
In terms of monthly filings, July 2024 saw the maximum number, with 5.87 crore ITRs submitted. In total, 8.50 crore ITRs have been filed by Nov. 22, marking a 7.32% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
Innovations like TIN 2.0 (new income tax e-filing portal launched in July 2022), pre-filling of ITRs, and updated returns continued to streamline processes, resulting in 47.52 lakh updated returns filed, the department said.

During fiscal 2025, over 1.62 crore income tax returns were processed in a single day. Approximately 21% of all ITRs were processed on the same day they were filed.
Additionally, around 26.35% of ITRs were processed within a week of filing in FY25, compared to 22.56% in fiscal 2024.
During the period between Jan. 1 and Oct. 13, over 1.3 lakh demands amounting to Rs 5 lakh crore have been reduced or resolved. The demand management facilitation centre currently consists of 170 agents who work six days a week.
"To encourage wider use and analysis of data, ITR statistics for different categories of taxpayers for AY 2022-23 and AY 2023-24 released. Awareness Campaign launched to assist taxpayers in accurately completing Schedule Foreign Assets (Schedule FA) and reporting income from foreign sources (Schedule FSI) in their ITRs," the department said.
