WHO Scolds Belarus for Military Parade as Epidemic Accelerates

(Bloomberg) --

The rapid spread of coronavirus in Belarus made it unjustifiable to organize the kind of mass gatherings that were held over the weekend, the World Health Organization said.

A military parade on Saturday commemorating the 75th anniversary of the victory in World War II created an additional risk of infection which may “eventually lead to losses of human lives that can be avoided,” the WHO office in Belarus said in an email.

The WHO urged the authorities to adopt stricter social distancing measures. The health ministry has reported 23,906 coronavirus cases as of Monday, with 135 deaths since the epidemic's start.
