(Bloomberg) -- Turkey said a bomb targeting civilians killed at least 35 people in a northeastern Syrian city that's been under Turkish control since 2018.
In a Twitter post on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defense blamed two Kurdish groups -- the PKK that's been fighting for autonomy in Turkey for decades and the affiliated Syrian YPG -- for the attack in Afrin that involved a bomb-laden fuel tanker.
The PKK is designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and European Union. Turkey considers the YPG to be the Syrian extension of the separatist organization, but the group received support from the U.S. for a lead role in fighting Islamic State in Syria, assistance that angered Ankara.
