Many of us desperately want to change careers. Others are forced onto different professional paths because jobs in their field are going to robots. But we mostly assume we'd have to go in for training to take up new skills, and/or take a huge pay cut to start over in another field. There might be a better way.

We talk to Claire Cain Miller, a New York Times reporter who embarked on a major data study to cross-reference thousands of skills and jobs, about the surprises and insights in what she found.
