(Bloomberg) -- Backers of opposition leader Juan Guaido fanned out across Venezuela's capital on Wednesday, passing out copies of a pamphlet promising amnesty to any member of the military who abandons Nicolas Maduro's socialist regime.
The four-page pamphlet, printed on National Assembly letterhead, contains six articles that would extend amnesty to members of the armed forces, civilians and other officers who have been jailed, persecuted or exiled for political reasons from Jan. 1, 1999 to now.
The move comes as thousands of opposition supporters took to the streets in demonstrations called by Guaido, who is appealing to world leaders and the armed forces to recognize him as the rightful head of state.
