Spain Says Land Borders Likely Shut Until July 1

(Bloomberg) --

Spanish land borders are likely to remain shuft after a national state of emergency ends June 21, the government said in a statement.

Spain will “restore internal mobility after the end on of the state of emergency on June 21,” but may extend border controls after that date, the Industry and Tourism Ministry said in a statement. Safe international mobility will begin starting from July 1, when international tourism in reopened, the ministry said in the statement.

The statement seeks to correct comments made earlier by the Tourism Minister Reyes Maroto who said the country would open borders with Portugal and France on June 22.

Minister Reyes Maroto had said earlier in the morning that land borders with France and Portugal would reopen on June 22, La Sexta TV channel reported.
