(Bloomberg) -- The younger brother of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has publicly endorsed the head of a new political party, saying the would-be rival to his brother is the leader the country "deserves".
Lee Hsien Yang, who's engaged in a bitter public clash with his older brother over the fate of their father's house, congratulated former presidential candidate Tan Cheng Bock on the formation of his new political party in a Facebook post, saying he has "consistently put the interests of the people first."
Tan, who narrowly lost his bid to be Singapore president almost eight years ago, said last week he would lead a new opposition group that would include former members of the country's ruling People's Action Party. Tan himself was once a lawmaker belonging to the ruling party.
“Today, Cheng Bock will groom future Parliamentarians who will serve our country and people before party or self," Lee wrote. "That is good for the future of Singapore.”
