(Bloomberg) -- JPMorgan Chase & Co. Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon, who underwent emergency heart surgery a week ago, returned home from the hospital Thursday and is recovering well, the bank's co-presidents said.
“We want you to know that his doctors said he is doing very well in all aspects of his recovery,” co-Presidents Daniel Pinto and Gordon Smith wrote in a memo to staff Thursday. “He is in good spirits and looking forward to re-engaging with our team soon.”
Pinto and Smith are running JPMorgan in Dimon's absence. Dimon felt chest pain before work a week ago, checked himself into the hospital and was diagnosed with acute aortic dissection, a serious condition involving a tear in the large blood vessel branching off the heart.
Dimon, who turns 64 on Friday, is the most prominent executive in global banking, serving as a spokesman for the industry and leading a juggernaut of both Wall Street and consumer lending.
