Israel Tightens Restrictions on Movement Before Passover Holiday

(Bloomberg) --

Israel's government approved new restrictions on movement ahead of the Passover holiday in order to prevent family gatherings that could quicken the spread of the new coronavirus.

Citizens will not be able to travel to other cities starting Tuesday evening through Friday morning, though still able to make grocery and medicine runs. Those restrictions will be even tighter starting Wednesday afternoon, just a few hours before Passover begins, until Thursday morning, when Israelis will not be allowed to go food shopping. The new limitations won't be in force in towns that have non-Jewish majorities.

There are more than 9,000 confirmed cases of the illness, and 60 people have died.
