Hungary to Vote on Allowing Restrictions for Airbnb Rentals

(Bloomberg) -- Hungary’s parliament is scheduled to vote on a government initiative on Tuesday that would allow municipalities to cap the number of days they allow proprietors to rent out apartments on a short-term basis.
The bill enjoys widespread support among political parties, with Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s party looking to help the hotel industry during the coronavirus by opening the way for restrictions for Airbnb rentals. The opposition, which runs much of Budapest, has said it wants to address the concerns of the capital’s residents, who regularly blame surging housing costs and noise on over-tourism.
