Guinea Starts Ebola Vaccination Program

Guinea began a vaccination campaign on Tuesday to contain the spread of the Ebola hemorrhagic fever.

The program was launched in Gouécké where the first case of the illness was recorded, the World Health Organization's representative in Guinea, George Ki-Zerbo said by phone.

”The capital Conakry is in the plan and will follow,” he said.

Guinea aims to quell the outbreak in six weeks, with vaccinators targeting families exposed to Ebola cases, Sakoba Keita, the head of Guinea's National Health Security Agency, said last week. Medical staff will also get shots against a disease that killed 115 health workers during the last outbreak.
