Greece Says 143 Coronavirus Cases on Ferry, in Refugee Camp

(Bloomberg) --

Greece said Thursday that 119 people on board a ferry ship moored off the Port of Piraeus with a total of 380 passengers and crew members have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Those who tested negative will gradually leave the ship and be quarantined in an Athens hotel for 14 days, Deputy Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Chardalias said. The others, nearly all of whom are showing mild symptoms, will remain in quarantine aboard the ferry.

A total of 24 refugees at the Ritsona camp near Athens also tested positive for the cirus. All will remain quarantined in the camp except for a woman who is already hospitalized after giving birth on Wednesday.

Greece so far has reported nearly 1,600 coronavirus cases and has recorded 53 deaths.
