French Consumer Confidence Hits Highest Since September

French consumer confidence unexpectedly rose in December to reach its long-term average of 100 as households were more positive about past and future living standards and their recent financial situation. Economists had forecast a decline to 97 amid inflation pressures and a rise in coronavirus cases. Still, French consumers were less sure about their capacity to make savings and big purchases and the study does not cover the most recent omicron surge in France that has hurt tourism and leisure activities.
