(Bloomberg) -- Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said the European Union should be “as flexible and positive as possible” in its negotiations over Brexit, should the U.K. come up with “specific suggestions” on how it intends to leave the bloc with a deal.

“We need to do what we can” to avoid a hard Brexit, Frederiksen told reporters at the prime minister's residence outside Copenhagen.

The U.K. government has said it sees an opportunity to restart Brexit negotiations with the EU after Prime Minister Boris Johnson's meetings last week with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Contacted by Bloomberg, Frederiksen's press office said her comments did not indicate that Denmark was willing to re-open the negotiations over the withdrawal agreement.
