Airbus Says Thousands of Jobs at Risk Over Eurofighter Order

(Bloomberg) --

Airbus SE risks losing thousands of jobs if the German government fails to replace the Tornado with its Eurofighter aircraft, Augsburger Allgemeine reported.

Airbus Chief Financial Officer Dominik Asam has warned the government about the potential job losses as it vies with Boeing Co.'s F-18 jet for the order, according to the newspaper.

“We're convinced that the Eurofighter is the ideal replacement for the Tornado,” Asam said in an interview with the paper. “As a result, we obviously hope we can convince the government when it makes its decision.”

German defense minster Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer wants to resolve the issue in the weeks ahead, DPA reported earlier this month.
