(Bloomberg) -- Fox Corp. is putting one of its biggest hits on the newly acquired Tubi service, moving quickly to exploit its entry in the streaming wars.
Three days after completing the takeover, Fox said “The Masked Singer” would appear on the platform. Both the first two seasons and current episodes will be available for free with advertising.
Fox purchased Tubi for $440 million, pushing deeper into the crowded market for streaming services. Competitor Pluto TV was acquired by Viacom for $340 million last year. And three new video platforms are debuting this month and next: the short-form service Quibi, Comcast Corp.'s Peacock and AT&T Inc.'s yet-to-launch HBO Max.
“The Masked Singer,” featuring disguised celebrities singing before a panel of judges, has been a top-rated unscripted program on TV, according to Fox. The current season was shot before the coronavirus shut down TV production.
Hulu, which was once a joint venture owned by several media giants, has traditionally been the streaming home for in-season episodes of Fox broadcast programs. It continues to air Fox shows such as “The Masked Singer” even after being taken over by Walt Disney Co.
