Foreign institutional investors continued their selling streak in the cash market for the seventh consecutive session on Tuesday. They turned net sellers in index futures, while they were net buyers in the stock options, index options, and stock futures.
FIIs In Cash Market
Overseas investors stayed net sellers for the seventh consecutive session and offloaded stocks worth Rs 2,454.2 crore on Tuesday, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.
Domestic institutional investors stayed net buyers for the sixth straight session and bought stocks worth approximately Rs 2,819.3 crore on Tuesday.
Foreign investors collectively offloaded stocks worth Rs 18,451 crore in the past seven sessions. Domestic investors bought shares worth Rs 17,155 crore in the last six sessions.
In December so far, the FPIs offloaded stocks worth Rs 6,744 crore, while the DIIs have bought stocks worth approximately Rs 18,774.1 crore.
In November, foreign investors sold shares worth Rs 45,974.1 crore, while the domestic institutional investors bought stocks worth Rs 44,483.9 crore. In October, the FPIs had sold equities worth Rs 1.14 lakh crore, and the DIIs mopped up equities worth Rs 21,593.34 lakh crore.
Foreign institutions have been net buyers of Rs 5,052 crore worth of Indian equities so far in 2024, according to data from the National Securities Depository Ltd., updated till the previous trading day.
FIIs In Futures And Options
Ahead of the Dec. 26 expiry, the value of outstanding positions—also called open interest in the derivatives segment—has decreased for the FIIs in the Nifty futures. The FIIs' long-to-short ratio in index futures remains at 24%:76%.
The FIIs sold index futures worth Rs 1,008 crore, while they bought index options worth Rs 26,328 crore, stock futures worth Rs 1,968 crore, and stock options worth Rs 1,881 crore.

F&O Cues
The Nifty December futures were down by 0.01% to 23,772 at a premium of 45 points, with the open interest down by 38%.
The open interest distribution for the Nifty 50 Dec. 26 expiry series indicated most activity at 24,000 call strikes, with the 22,000 put strikes having maximum open interest.
Long-Short Ratio
The total long-short ratio for foreign investors rose slightly to 1.16 from 1.02 in the earlier session.
