IMD Heatwave And Rainfall Weather Forecast: High Temperature And Thunderstorms Warning Issued For Two Weeks
The weekly average maximum temperature for the week ending in April 2 was 1-3ºC above normal in northern India, which is expected to rise further.

The India Meteorological Department has projected heatwave conditions in some parts of the country over the next two weeks, while others may receive rain.
On Thursday, the IMD reported that the average maximum temperature for the week ending April 2 was 1-3ºC above normal in northern India, which is expected to see a sharp rise.
The lowest minimum temperature of 8.0°C was recorded in Amritsar on March 29, while the highest maximum temperature of 43.0°C was recorded in Rajnandgaon and Jharsuguda (Chattisgarh, Odisha) on March 28, IMD said.
For the next two weeks, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and high temperatures for different states in India.
Rainfall Warning For Coming Week
The IMD said that some states are expected to receive rainfall between April 4 and 9, due to the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over Marathwada, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and the southeast Arabian Sea. Additionally, an easterly trough affects South Interior Karnataka to Madhya Pradesh, which would result in downpour in these states.
April 4-5: Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) likely over South Peninsular India.
April 4: Isolated hailstorm likely over Jharkhand; heavy rainfall over Kerala and Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
April 5: Isolated hailstorm likely over Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura; heavy rainfall over Kerala and Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh.
April 6: Heavy rainfall likely over Kerala and Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Subsequently, between April 10 and 16, rainfall is expected to be normal to above normal across India, the IMD predicted.
Under the influence of western disturbances, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall is expected over the Western Himalayan Region, with light rainfall and thunderstorms over northwest India, according to the weather body. Moreover, northeast and East India, along with extreme South Peninsular India, will also experience light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms.
Heatwave Warning
Heat wave conditions are likely in isolated pockets of Saurashtra and Kutch (April 4-8), West Rajasthan (April 6-9), Gujarat Region (April 6-8), East Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana (April 7-9).
Hot and humid weather expected over Gujarat (April 4-9) and Konkan and Goa (April 5-9).
A gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3-5°C expected over Northwest India in the next six days.
No significant change in maximum temperatures over Central India for the next two days, followed by a gradual rise of 2-4°C over the next five days.
No significant change in maximum temperatures over West India for the next 24 hours, followed by a rise of 2-3°C over the next five days.
No significant change in maximum temperatures over South Peninsular India for the next three days, with a rise of 2-3°C expected over the following four days.
No significant change in maximum temperatures expected over other parts of the country for the next seven days.
Hot And Humid Weather Prediction
The IMD said that between April 10 and 16, the maximum temperatures are likely to be 2-3°C above normal over Western Himalayan Region, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and South Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, near normal or below-normal temperatures are expected over the rest of the country.
