Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated 184 newly constructed multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in New Delhi.

Each flat offers around 5,000 square feet of carpet area and is designed to accommodate both residential and official needs. The Type-VII complex includes dedicated spaces for offices, staff housing and a community centre for the MPs.

On the occasion, PM Modi planted a Sindoor sapling and interacted with Shramjeevis, workers involved in the construction. He also addressed a gathering to appreciate the efforts behind the project.

Speaking at the gathering, PM Modi said, “Here, Members of Parliament from different states and regions of the country will live together. Your presence here will become a symbol of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”

During his speech, PM Modi also urged everyone to maintain cleanliness in the complex, as he emphasised that it was a shared responsibility. He added that maintaining cleanliness would not only enhance the MPs’ residences but also keep the entire complex beautiful and well-maintained.

“If festivals from every state are collectively celebrated in this complex from time to time, it will add a special charm and vibrancy to the atmosphere,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), all buildings in the complex are earthquake-resistant. They adhere to current structural safety standards and come with a comprehensive security system.

The project was initiated to address the lack of sufficient housing for MPs in Delhi. It contains all the modern amenities for MPs and has been built with green construction standards. The project meets the 'Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment' (GRIHA) 3-star rating.

The residential complex complies with the National Building Code (NBC) 2016 and features a sustainable design. It will enhance energy efficiency, support renewable energy and promote effective waste management.

Additionally, the complex is Divyang-friendly, showcasing an inclusive approach to infrastructure. The complex has been built using advanced monolithic concrete with aluminium shuttering and was completed within the stipulated timeline.
