Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) is set to conduct its annual pre-monsoon maintenance work on Thursday, leading to temporary disruption to services.

In view of the scheduled maintenance work at two runways, the airport will remain closed from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 8.

The development is expected to disrupt flight operations at the airport facility during the scheduled hours.

"Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has scheduled its annual pre-monsoon runway maintenance on 8 May, between 1100 hrs and 1700 hrs. During this time, both the primary runway 09/27 and secondary runway 14/32 will be temporarily non-operational," the airport authorities informed in a post on X.

CSMIA said that it has already coordinated with various stakeholders including airlines on the issue. The airlines and aviation authorities have been informed in advance in order to cause minimal inconvenience to the passengers.

People who were supposed to travel on Thursday are likely to receive an updated communication regarding their journey details by their respective airlines soon.

In a post on X, budget airline IndiGo informed its passengers about the changes to the scheduled flights for the day.

"On May 8, runways at Mumbai airport will remain closed for essential pre-monsoon maintenance for the day," IndiGo said, adding that it has made some adjustments to the flights.

Passengers scheduled to fly on May 8 are advised to regularly check their flight status to avoid any inconvenience, it said. Spicejet, Akasa Air and other airlines have also issued similar advisory to their passengers scheduled to fly on Thursday.

Notably, flights were impacted at the Mumbai airport for the last couple of days due to the arrival of pre-monsoon showers in the region. On Tuesday, adverse weather conditions in Mumbai had resulted in disruption to some flight operations.

"Adverse weather conditions caused by thunderstorms and rain are currently impacting flight operations in Mumbai. As a result, some of our flights to and from Mumbai may experience delays or diversions," Air India had informed its passengers earlier.
