Jagan Reddy Denies Allegations On Adani, Clarifies Power Deal Involved Government Agencies

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Reddy denied allegations of bribes linked to a power purchase agreement. He stated that the agreement was between two government entities, with no involvement of private firms, including the Adani Group.

This comes after his party, the YSRCP, in a statement a day prior, said the Eenadu newspaper used disinformation spread by the ruling Telugu Desam Party to allege that an offer made by SECI in September 2021 to supply power at Rs 2.49 per kWh was accepted by the Reddy government very hastily within a seven-hour period, without allegedly taking adequate time to consider the strengths and shortcomings of the proposal.

YSRCP said the allegations were made despite the fact that one, the tariff was lower than all the sources of power to Andhra Pradesh discoms till date and two, despite the offer also conveying the central government's special incentive of waiver of inter-state transmission charges.

The cheapest rate of power has been provided, with the central government's Solar Energy Corp. offering a rate of Rs 2.49 per unit for Andhra Pradesh, Reddy said during a press conference. He also mentioned that special incentives were given.

He said the power purchase deal was between government agencies and there was no question of anyone else being involved.

Reddy further said he will sue the Eenadu and Andhra Jyothi newspaper for Rs 100 crore.
