Weather News Today: India To Receive Above Normal Rainfall During Southwest Monsoon Season, Says IMD

Unseasonal rains lashed several parts of Gujarat on Tuesday, providing respite to people from the scorching summer heat.

According to the India Meteorological Department, parts of Saurashtra as well as south and central Gujarat are expected to receive heavy unseasonal showers during the next two days due to the upper air cyclonic circulation over west Madhya Pradesh.

Amid a dry spell in Himachal Pradesh, the local Met station has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and hailstorms over some parts of the state. It said this wet spell will continue till June 2, as per PTI report.

Continuing heavy rains threw normal life out of gear in Kerala on Tuesday, disrupting rail and road traffic in many places, flooding low-lying areas and causing crores of rupees worth destruction of agricultural crops.

Northeast may see below-normal rain, while Northwest India is likely to receive normal rainfall, said IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra during press conference.

Thunderstorms and rain are likely in several parts of Rajasthan in the coming days even as temperatures in other parts of the state are expected to rise, the Meteorological Center Jaipur said on Tuesday.
