Weather News Today: Rain Lashes Various Parts Of Delhi, Mumbai On Yellow Alert Till Weekend

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said that the monsoon rains, which arrived early this year, have caused widespread damage in the state.

Vijayan urged those living in areas prone to flooding and landslides to move to safer locations or relief camps, as per PTI.

Rain lashes various parts of Delhi on Thursday evening.

The heavy monsoon rains and accompanying strong winds damaged homes, power lines and crops in many parts of Kerala, with the India Meteorological Department on Thursday issuing a red alert for eight districts of the state.

The IMD has issued a red alert in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts for the day and an orange alert in the remaining six districts.

The IMD on Thursday predicted thunderstorms to occur in parts of Andhra Pradesh for three days from May 29 to 31.

The thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds up to 50 km per hour, in isolated places of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, said IMD.

Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Chhattisgarh & Odisha, some more parts of North Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Northeastern states and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and entire Sikkim today, the 29th May 2025, the IMD said in a post on X.

The India Meteorological Department on Thursday has issued an orange alert for Kolkata, Howrah, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, East Bardhaman, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly and East Midnapore from 8:30 am on May 29 to 8:30 am on May 30. The districts are likely to see "heavy rain (07-11cm) with very heavy rain (12-20cm)" at one or two places. This will be downgraded to a yellow alert on May 30-31.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Purulia, West Midnapore, Bankura, Jhargram, West Bardhaman and Birbhum from May 29 to May 31.

This alert comes after the IMD announced that a depression formed over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression.

Mizoram's capital Aizwal receives heavy rainfall today as per IMD predictions.

"Schools have been closed across Mizoram today due to predictions of heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. A directive was issued on this following consultation with the state disaster management and rehabilitation department, according to a notification by the state's school education department late Wednesday said," as per PTI.

Karnataka observed very heavy rainfall on Wednesday, the IMD said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

IMD has issued an orange alert for Delhi on Friday, with rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds reaching speeds up to 70 kilometres per hour.
