Severe Cold Wave And Heavy Rainfall Warnings Issued For These States; Check Full List
The weather department said that the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to concentrate into a depression during the next 12 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued alerts for heavy rainfall in southern India and a cold wave across multiple northern states.
In its latest bulletin on December 20, the weather department said that the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to concentrate into a depression in the next 12 hours.
“The well-marked low-pressure area over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal has moved nearly northwards and lay over west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal at 0530 hours IST of today, Dec. 20, 2024,” the IMD said.
The depression is then likely to maintain intensity and move north-northeastwards in the next 24 hours.
“The associated upper cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. The system is likely to continue to move nearly northwards and concentrate into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to move north-northeastwards maintaining the intensity of depression for subsequent 24 hours,” as per the IMD bulletin.
Rainfall Warnings In These States
The IMD has said that isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh are likely to see heavy rainfall on Dec. 20, while a few other places in the state are set to experience light to moderate rainfall.
Light to moderate rainfall is also very likely at a few places over North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Rayalaseema on Dec. 20.
Coastal Odisha and coastal Gangetic West Bengal are expected to see light to moderate rainfall today and tomorrow.
Cold Wave Warnings For Punjab, Haryana, And Other States
Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail in some parts of Himachal Pradesh from Dec. 20 to Dec. 23. Similar conditions are expected in isolated pockets over West Rajasthan on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21.
Cold wave conditions are very likely in some parts of Punjab from Dec. 20 to Dec. 22.
Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad will experience cold waves between Dec. 20 and Dec. 25. Haryana and Chandigarh will see similar conditions on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21.
The IMD said ground frost conditions are expected in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh from Dec. 20 to Dec. 23.
