Government Appoints Arunish Chawla As New Revenue Secretary

The government on Wednesday in an official circular announced the appointment of Arunish Chawla as the new revenue secretary. Chawla will succeed Sanjay Malhotra who has now taken charge as the governor of Reserve Bank of India for a period of three years.

He will continue to hold the additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of Culture, till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, said the circular by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Arunish Chawla, IAS, a 1992-batch officer from the Bihar cadre, has served as the Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, since November 1, 2023. Prior to this role, he was appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the same department.

Throughout his distinguished career, Chawla has held several critical positions, including Additional Chief Secretary of Planning and Development, where he also served as Secretary of the Bihar State Planning Board and Project Director of the Bihar Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Society. He further contributed to urban development in his role as Additional Chief Secretary for Urban Development and Housing and served as the Managing Director of the Patna Metro Rail Corporation.

Amit Agrwala, Chief Executive Officer, Unique Identification Authority of India will take over as Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers as Chawla has been appointed as Revenue Secretary.
