Manmohan Singh Dies At 92: Schools, Colleges To Offices, What's Open, What’s Closed?
In honour of Dr Manmohan Singh, India will observe a nationwide seven-day state mourning.

The central government has declared a seven-day nationwide state mourning in honour of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Dec. 26 at the age of 92. During the state mourning period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across all locations where it is customarily displayed. All official entertainment is to be suspended during this period as well.
"As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, it has been decided that seven days of state mourning will be observed throughout India from Dec. 26, 2024 to Jan. 1, 2025, both days inclusive. During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India where it is regularly flown, and there will be no official entertainment during the period of state mourning," the Home Ministry said in a directive.
It has also been decided that the state funeral will be accorded to Manmohan Singh, it added.
The Union Cabinet is expected to meet today at 11:00 a.m. where further decisions could be announced.
Manmohan Singh's Demise: What’s Open, What’s Closed?
The Government of Karnataka has declared a public holiday on Dec. 27 to mourn Dr Manmohan Singh's demise. Schools, colleges, and offices will remain closed on this day. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also announced a seven-day mourning period to honour Singh’s contributions to the nation.
The Telangana government has also declared a public holiday on Dec. 27 to mourn the loss of the former Prime Minister. All government offices and educational institutes in the state will be closed.
Other states have not declared anything as yet. However, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has cancelled all state government programmes to honour the former Prime Minister. The Union government has announced the same.

AIIMS Statement
Dr Manmohan Singh passed away at AIIMS Delhi, where he was admitted the previous evening after he fell unconscious at home. Confirming his death, AIIMS stated that he had been receiving treatment for age-related medical conditions.
"With profound grief, we inform the demise of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was being treated for age-related medical conditions and had sudden loss of consciousness at home on 26th December 2024. Resuscitative measures were started immediately at home. He was brought to the Medical Emergency at AIIMS, New Delhi at 8:06 PM. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM," a press release from AIIMS said.
Dr Singh's mortal remains were transported to his residence at 3 Motilal Nehru Marg, where they will lie in state for the public to pay their last respects. The last rites of the former Prime Minister, set to take place on Saturday, will be conducted with full state honours.
