This has left many confused, especially in the wake of Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid.
Eid-ul-Adha, one of the major festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide, is marked on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah.
On X, a few users have claimed that Friday is a public holiday, "leading to nationwide closures".

A similar claim was made in a YouTube video by "ISH News," which states that the Indian government has announced a holiday for Friday to support "mental health for people".
Such posts have left many people confused, with some even cross-checking with Grok, a generative AI chatbot developed by xAI, whether the information is true or not.

Fact Check: National Holiday On June 6?
It turns out that the viral claims regarding the national holiday on Friday, June 6, are completely false. However, no such nationwide public holiday has been declared by the central government.
As per the official bank holidays calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), both public and private sector banks will remain closed on Friday in cities like Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi in Kerala on account of Id-ul-Ad’ha (Bakrid).
Meanwhile, Bakri ID (Id-Uz-Zuha) will be celebrated in India on Saturday, June 7. Despite being the first Saturday of June, banks will remain shut in all cities across the country, except in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

On Reddit, one user even advised people to remain aware of the false claims being spread regarding the June 6 holiday due to an "astronomical event".
The user highlighted that multiple websites have shared fake news by misusing images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Notably, there is no national holiday on Friday. The banks, schools and other government institutions will remain operational as usual, except for the bank holiday in Kerala.
