The Dharavi Redevelopment Project plays a crucial role in Mumbai's transformation, focusing on housing and livelihoods, SVR Srinivas, chief executive officer of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, told ANI.

Srinivas emphasised on the importance of building resilient ecology and infrastructure.

"The vision is slum-free Mumbai. That is the broader vision. And through that, to become slum-free Maharashtra. And it's a project of importance and central to the redevelopment of Mumbai. So, it is also a step towards slum-free India. That is the vision," Srinivas said.

"The motto is housing for all. Nobody should be left out in the process as far as housing is concerned. It is the most inclusive Slum Rehabilitation Authority project ever undertaken in India," he added.

The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is an urban renewal effort in Mumbai to convert Asia's largest slum into a modern township.

Srinivas shed light on the government's dedication to transform the informal settlement into a sustainable and inclusive urban environment. He also said that DRP's main aim is to not only provide housing equally but also about safeguarding livelihoods.

The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is being carried out through Special Purpose Vehicle under a public-private partnership model. It forms a joint venture between the Adani Group and Maharashtra Government.

Under the project, all eligible residential tenements in Dharavi will get flats equipped with independent kitchens and toilets, with a minimum area of 350 square feet. This allocation is 17% larger than standard provisions in Mumbai's slum redevelopment projects, making it the most generous in the city.
