A Hyundai i20 hatchback with Haryana number plates was the epicentre of a high-intensity blast near Delhi's Red Fort, sources told NDTV. Eight people were killed and 20 injured in a blast that caused 22 nearby vehicles, including an e-rickshaw, to burst into flames.
Sources told NDTV the car's original owner was a Mohd Salman who then sold it to a Nadeem.
Salman has been arrested by police in Haryana's Gurugram.
Forensic analysts, including those from India's premier anti-terror agency, the National Investigation Agency, are on-site collecting data and evidence, and are working to identify the vehicle make, model, and registration number, all of which will be critical to finding the guilty.
The United States on Monday said it is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to provide consular assistance in the wake of the deadly bomb blast near the Red Fort.
A State Department spokesperson told PTI that “we are aware of the explosion near Red Fort in Delhi. We are closely monitoring the situation and stand ready to provide consular assistance.”
President Droupadi Murmu:
"I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the blast that has taken place in Delhi. I pray for the quick recovery of those injured."

An NSG team, along with a sniffer dog, is at the spot in Delhi where the blast took place in a Hyundai i20 car today at around 7 pm.

Twenty-four people were injured in the blast that took place on a busy evening when the area was milling with people. The injured were taken to the LNJP hospital, a few kilometres away, news agency PTI reported.
A National Security Guard (NSG) team arrived at the spot after the blast near Gate no 1 of the Red Fort Metro station in Delhi.
Several states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Kerala have been put on alert in the wake of Delhi blast. Security has been tightened across the UT of Chandigarh.
An alert has also been issued in Haryana. The government has issued instructions to all district magistrates.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, after receiving information about the incident from Director General of Police Rajiv Krishna, has given instructions to keep the entire police force on high alert and ensure intensive checking and security arrangements.

"The car blast incident in Delhi is extremely painful and disturbing. At this moment of immense grief, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is at the LNJP hospital in Delhi to take stock of the situation there. At least 13 have been declared dead in the incident, and many are injured. Visuals showed Shah speaking to hospital and police officials.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer AK Malik says, "We got information that there was a blast in a car near Chandni Chowk Metro Station. We responded immediately, and seven units were sent to the spot. A high alert has been sounded in Delhi after an explosion near the Red Fort, news agency PTI reported.
The Delhi Fire Department said a call was received regarding an explosion in a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, after which three to four vehicles also caught fire and sustained damage, reports ANI.
A total of seven fire tenders have reached the spot and a team from the Delhi Police Special Cell are also there.
