Your Guide To FII Positions For Feb. 18 Trade

Foreign portfolio investors stayed net sellers of Indian equities for the ninth straight session on Monday. They were also net sellers of index and stock options, and buyers of index and stock futures.

FIIs In Cash Market

Foreign portfolio investors stayed net sellers of Indian equities for the ninth straight session on Monday as they offloaded stocks worth approximately Rs 3,937.8 crore.

Domestic institutional investors stayed net buyers for the ninth straight session as they mopped up equities worth Rs 4,759.8 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

The FPIs sold stocks worth Rs 4,294.7 crore on Friday. In February so far, the overseas investors have offloaded equities worth Rs 5,400.8 crore.

FIIs In Futures And Options 

Ahead of the Feb. 27 expiry, the value of outstanding positions — also called open interest in the derivatives segment — has decreased for foreign institutional investors in the Nifty futures. The FIIs' long-to-short ratio in index futures remains at 16:84.

The FIIs sold index options worth Rs 1,760.7 crore and stock options worth Rs 504.8 crore. They bought index futures worth Rs 588.3 crore and stock futures worth Rs 2,456.6 crore.

FII Contract Value 

The value of the total Nifty 50 futures open interest in the market decreased by Rs 389 crore at the end of February expiry, from Rs 39,979 crore a day earlier to Rs 39,589.98 crore.

F&O Cues 

The Nifty February futures were up 0.21% to 23,043.40, at a premium of 83.9 points, with the open interest down by 1.11%.

The open interest distribution for the Nifty 50 Feb. 20 expiry series indicated most activity at 23,500 call strikes, with the 23,000 put strikes having maximum open interest.

Long-Short Ratio 

The total long-short ratio for foreign investors remained flat at 1.19.
