Top 10 Most-Valued Firms Gain Rs 44,000 Crore In Market Cap, Led By RIL, Airtel

The NSE Nifty 50 and the BSE Sensex extended gains to the second session on Monday as RIL and Infosys share prices led.

The top 10 most-valued firms gained a cumulative Rs 44,557 crore in market valuation on Monday, with Reliance Industries Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd. emerging as the biggest gainers.

RIL gained Rs 24,898 crore, taking its market capitalisation to Rs 17.7 lakh crore. Airtel gained Rs 8,454 crore, with its market cap rising to Rs 9.34 lakh crore. Infosys Ltd. and HDFC Bank Ltd. gained Rs 8,138 crore and Rs 7,552 crore respectively.

The market cap of ICICI Bank Ltd. gained Rs 2,360 crore to 9.18 lakh crore and ITC Ltd. also gained nearly Rs 813 crore, taking its market cap to Rs 5.97 lakh crore.

Hindustan Unilever Ltd. lost Rs 4,029 crore, taking its market cap to Rs 5.82 lakh crore and State Bank of India lost Rs 1,695 crore, with its market cap declining to Rs 7.47 lakh crore.

RIL remained the most-valued firm, followed by TCS, HDFC Bank, Airtel, ICICI Bank, Infosys, SBI, HUL, ITC and HCL Technologies Ltd.

The NSE Nifty 50 and the BSE Sensex extended gains to the second session on Monday as RIL and Infosys share prices led. The benchmark indices recovered at the later part of the session.

The Nifty 50 ended 144.95 points or 0.60% higher at 24,276.05, and the Sensex closed 445.29 points or 0.56% up at 80,248.08.

The benchmark indices declined as the Indian currency slumped to fresh record low against the US dollar amid worries over India's gross domestic product and US President–elect Donald Trump's threats to impose tariff on the BRICS nations if they create a currency to replace the greenback.

Shares of RIL, HDFC Bank, Infosys, UltraTech Cement Ltd. and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. contributed to the gains in the Nifty 50 the most.

NTPC Ltd., HDFC Life Insurance Co., HUL, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. and Cipla Ltd. weighed on the index.
