Current Market Update

Happy New Year!

Good Morning!

Here's wishing you all a very happy and joyous new year!

Indian equities crossed the 14,000-mark for the first time ever on the final trading session of 2020 but closed the day a tad lower.

The NSE Nifty 50 gained 15% during the volatile year, its best run since 2017. The broader markets outperformed the benchmarks in 2020, gaining more than 20%. Banks, however, were the laggards, with the PSU Bank index posting its worst run since 2015.

The street will watch out for auto sales data to be released on the first day of the new year 2021.

The Sensex and the Nifty have gained so far this week. A positive close today would mean ninth straight weekly gain for the Sensex—the first time since April 2010.

Most Asian equities are shut today on account of the New Year holiday. The U.S. equities rallied overnight to end at a record high.
